In October 2011, old friends Jonny & Tom sat down to a bowl of noodles in Bermondsey and decided to start a bicycle company. Visiting Uganda two months earlier, Tom had been captivated by the simple but elegant bicycles which are ubiquitous to much of rural East Africa. These models, based on a century-old British design, offer a combination of style, robustness and affordability not readily available in the UK. Something had to be done. And so began three years of designing, testing, failing, re-designing and re-testing…

Now in our second year of sales, Fred’s is quickly establishing itself as one of the most distinctive boutique bicycle brands in the UK. Our 2014 launch was soon followed by press coverage in publications from Tatler to Cycling Active, with the Observer and The Week both featuring Fred’s as one of their top 6 brands. Above all, Fred’s bicycles have been consistently recognised for their style and quality, both by official standards authorities and the cycling industry.

Besides the bicycles themselves, Fred’s is bringing a fresh business approach to the UK market. We are particularly proud to support an amazing charity through a profit-share arrangement and local businesses through our pioneering distribution model:
Recognising the inspiration for our product, we share 5% of all our profit with the Ugandan charity Bicycles Against Poverty. BAP distributes bicycles in order to enable rural Ugandans to access to critical resources such as education, healthcare and markets.

We have done away with the traditional bicycle distribution approach, sending an unassembled bicycle to your doorstep at an inconvenient time of day. Instead, we deliver your bicycle to your local bicycle shop where we pay for it to be professionally assembled and checked. So you can collect your road-ready steed when it suits you – and support a local business in the process.

Please do take a look round our site and be sure to check out our bicycles. And feel free to get in touch if you have any questions – just drop us a line at and we will get back to you.
